abstract = "Data from remote sensors in the thermal infrared region allow
performing mapping of islands of heat through the surface
temperature estimation. This article aimed to evaluate the data
from sensor TIRS (Band 10), Landsat 8, for mapping of heat islands
in the urban area of the city Manaus. Two images for the months of
August and September 2015 were evaluated. The procedures applied
were atmospheric correction and subsequent the transformation of
data into physical quantities in order to surface temperature
estimates in degrees Celsius. The results were compared with the
air temperature data from weather station, where the estimated
temperature values were higher than the average temperature of the
air. Comparing the values of the surface temperature of both
thermal images evaluated, it appears thermal variations between
them. The thermal map of the day on August 10, the surface
temperatures are lower, with a minimum of 19.55 °C and maximum of
34.81 °C, compared to the image of September 11 with 22.85 °C and
38.84 °C to the minimum and maximum respectively. Therefore, the
data along with the methodology used allowed to obtain information
regarding the estimated temperature of the urban surface. Which
allowed the identification and spatial distribution of heat
islands, key information for understanding climate dynamics and
other environmental issues aimed at the urban planning of
                         cities.",
